Get to Know Ashly Cifuentes, Fischell Institute Student Assistant

What is your year, major/minor, and hometown?
Hi, my name is Ashly Cifuentes. I’m a sophomore majoring in Public Health Science/Pre-Physician Assistant track. I was born in Guatemala and grew up there until I was 11 years old. After that, I came to the United States and have lived in Prince George’s County ever since. Though I do have family here, most of my family is back home, so whenever I can, I go back to visit them.
What do you enjoy most about working at the Fischell Institute?
What I enjoy most about working at the Fischell Institute is definitely the environment and people. As I began my college journey, I felt scared. I knew I was stepping into new experiences, and the Fischell Institute, despite being one of them, made me feel seen, supported, and heard. As a student assistant, I support staff, events, ensuring a safe research environment, and keeping track of packages.
What do you want to do after graduation?
Some of my goals for after graduating UMD include: traveling around the world, exploring my passions, going to PA school, and moving to a new place.
What do you most enjoy doing outside of school and work?
Outside of school and work, I enjoy winding down by listening to music, working out, journaling, and going on late night walks. All of these help me to de-stress and distract myself from everything else that I have going on.
