Fischell Institute Researchers Featured at Mpower Day
On Tuesday, Jan. 21, members of the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University of Maryland, College Park communities celebrated Mpower Day in Annapolis, MD.
The event is an annual celebration of the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: Mpowering the State. This partnership promotes cross-campus programming and infrastructure to foster collaborative research and help recent graduates bring their ideas to market. The collaboration between Baltimore and College Park began in 2012 and was formalized by law in 2016.
Along with several (BIOE) undergraduates, Fischell Institute researchers Rayan Alabsi (M.Eng. Bioengineering ’19), Negin Haghighi Ara, Tejasvi Subramanya, and Alex Woo presented their projects at the event.
These four researchers are recipients of the Fischell Institute’s MPowering the State Student Entrepreneurship Fellowship. This fellowship helps student researchers transition innovative medical device projects into great business ideas, while earning an M.Eng. degree in bioengineering. Fellows have access to dedicated lab space and material support for product development, while building connections with industry and regulatory professionals.
