Fischell Institute Assistant Director Martha Wang was a panelist at the Anchor Ventures Meet Your Makers: The Design, Prototyping, and Manufacturing Journey event, held at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures in Baltimore on October 26, 2023.

During the event, Wang and other panelists discussed the manufacturing journey of a new product, from research to proof-of-concept and prototyping, as well as commercialization and manufacturing.

“The panel was a great way to connect with future innovators and Maryland-based manufacturing teams,” said Wang. “I was excited to hear what my fellow panelists had to say about their experiences as makers.”

The panel included Cyrus Etemad-Moghadam, President and Founder of RPM Tech, and Lei Zong, Director of Strategy of Key Tech, Inc. Susan Ganz, Former CEO and Chair of LG Group Inc./Lion Brothers Co., moderated the event.

Mary Morris, Director of the Baltimore Fund, invited Wang to speak at the event.

During the panel, Wang answered questions about her background in medical devices and why access to manufacturing is critically important to the long-term success of entrepreneurs. She also spoke about prototyping from both a scientific and medical device standpoint, and explained her role as Assistant Director for the Fischell Institute.

“I enjoyed learning from other panelists and hearing their experiences and expertise,” said Wang. “I am excited to share what I learned and invite these panelists to my medical device development course at the University of Maryland.”

After the event, Wang met attendees and answered questions. Wang noted that she enjoys panels and can’t wait to do this again in the future.

“The world needs passionate makers like my fellow panelists,” she said. “Without makers, we wouldn’t be able to bring people’s dreams to reality and make the world a better place.”
